The son of Harry and Wilma Smith, Steven Richmond Smith was born on April 2, 1947 in Hood River, Oregon.

He grew up in Salem, Oregon where he attended Saint Joseph & Sacred Heart Catholic schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and served 2 years of combat duty in Vietnam.

After his service in the Army, he returned to Salem, Oregon where he married and raised his three children with his first wife while working for the State of Oregon for 25 years.  Steve married his second wife Peggy Smith on July 8, 2000 in Vancouver, Washington.  They resided in Willamina, Oregon and enjoyed recreational gambling and traveling to different casinos together.  Steve enjoyed travel and loved his family and he leaves behind many memories of road trips, camping, and family gatherings.

Steve is survived by his wife of 19 years, Peggy Smith, his brother Lonnie Weigle, his three children Angela Schmidt (Michael Schmidt), Aimee Gleason, Steven Smith Jr. (Bethany Smith), 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, Peggy’s two children Michelle Kinney (Roger Kinney) and Jeff Smith (Vikki Smith), 6 grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Wilma Smith, and his sister Linda Simpson.
