A LIFE OF LOVE AND LAUGHTER

Penney Buckingham, 63, passed away after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer and associated illnesses on February 20, 2022 with family by her bedside.

Born in Hollywood, California on January 28, 1959, Penney was the daughter of Raymond Knaub and Virginia (Erickson) Knaub.

Penney graduated from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Indiana in 1977.  After graduation, she started working at United Telephone Company in Indiana. There she met Dennis Chrisenberry.  They were married on April 30, 1987. They would later divorce, but maintained a mutual love for their daughter, Natasha.

Penney and David Buckingham married on August 14, 1993.  They would start their lives together in St. Helens, Oregon for a short period of time before relocating to Penney’s 5 acre dream property in Grand Ronde, Oregon.  They left for a much smaller property in Sheridan, Oregon in 2015.

Penney worked for the Willamina School District in various classified positions for 18 years.  She retired in 2014.

She is survived by her husband, David Buckingham and her two daughters: Natasha Chrisenberry, 34, and Megan Hill, 38, along with son-in-law Luke Hill and four grandchildren: Hunter Chrisenberry, 9, Donovan Foster, 7, Landon Hill, 8, and Sadie Hill, 5.   Penney was the youngest of 4 children and is survived by brothers Richard (Rhonda) Pelham and Robert (Becky) Kruger and a sister Anita McKenna.  Her mother, Virginia, lives in the Grants Pass area with her son Robert and Becky Kruger.  She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Knaub.

In her retired years, Penney loved to spend time with her friends and family. Lunches and shopping with her girlfriends kept her busy, as well as gardening and reading.  She loved her vegetable garden and her various flowers and plants.  Nothing made her happier than talking with friends while sitting on her back deck….looking at the birds feeding, the bees buzzing and flowers blooming.

Penney was a member of Rivers Edge Adventist Church in McMinnville, Oregon.  She loved her church family and looked forward to worshiping with them every week.  Her role as “Mimi” to her grandkids allowed her to share her love for Jesus and everything God had created.  Penney had a knack for making everyone she met feel special and leaves behind so many treasured friends.  The world is a bit darker place without Penney’s  smile and laughter .  She will be missed by so many…..she was one of God’s most precious creations.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Rivers Edge Adventist Church on April 3rd.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross – Willamette Chapter at 1860 Hawthorne Avenue NE in Salem, Oregon  97301. Please phone 503-585-5414.
