Betty Ann Siplinger of Sheridan died March 13, 2022, in Salem, Oregon.

Betty was born July 8, 1931, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Henry and Joy Flewell. The family welcomed another daughter, Janet, a few years later, and moved to Oregon while Betty was still in grade school.

Betty graduated from Parkrose High School and started working at Emanuel Hospital as a ward clerk in the pediatric ward. It was while working in the hospital that Betty met Lance Siplinger, and they were married April 19, 1952.

In the 1970s, while still working in the Portland area, Lance and Betty found some property outside of Sheridan to move to when they retired. That day came in 1977, and they moved to “Thunderhead Acres” – 10 acres where they planted fir trees, a small fruit orchard, and a huge garden. They loved animals and kept horses, chicken, and geese, and you could always count on the Siplingers to feed the deer and raccoons that came around.

After moving to Sheridan, Lance and Betty became faithful members of Sheridan Baptist Church, and could be found in their place every Sunday. Betty was also involved in the community through extension clubs and the local Christian Women’s Circle.

In April of 2013, Lance went home to heaven. While Betty missed her husband of 61 years, she carried on with a busy social and church life.  You could also always count on her to bake homemade cookies for Sunday School, and she loved participating in church potlucks.  She was probably best known as “Grandma Sip” by the many young people who met her over the years.

Betty is survived by Lance’s daughter, Lanette Joner, along with many family members who will miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held at the Sheridan Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2022.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sheridan Baptist Church Children’s Education Center (CEC).
