Roscoe Raymond Gutbrod was born January 24, 1930 to John and Hedwig Gutbrod in Sheridan, Oregon. As a boy he attended the Sheridan schools. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan, Oregon.
He spent his summers with his grandparents in Waldport, Oregon. As a young boy he had a paper route in town and delivered his papers on his bicycle. When he was old enough to drive in the 1940’s, he had a route in the country.
He was in the Army from 1952 - 1954. He served at Fort Roberts, California, and then at Fort Lewis, Washington, as a ration breakdown clerk. When he got out of the Army in 1954, he started farming on the family farm on Ballston Road. He milked cows, grew wheat, barley, oats and hay.
He was a Sheridan Fire Department volunteer from 1950 - 2000. A 50 years volunteer. He loved hunting, fishing and old firetrucks.
He married Marjorie Kutsch on November 24, 1957 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Albany, Oregon. They had 2 children, Cynthia (Gary) Banke, and Peter (Darlene) Gutbrod. 6 grandsons, Joshua, Ryan, Derek (deceased), Trevor, Tyler and Connor, and 6 great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service with Military Honors January 22, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church. There will also be refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service.
